Work, work, work. Though Dev didn’t need to do it as he had all the money he needed, at least for now, he still had a job because he didn’t something to fill in the hours for him. As he wasn’t studying at the moment, and one could only spend that much time with friends and the partying, he needed to do something productive. And if he ever found something more exciting or important to do, then he’d quit his job right here. After all, he could always find another one. That’s why he was so lax in his job, and he didn’t do his best here, because he knew that he was secure, even if he got fired.
Still, the barista life was pretty good. The work wasn’t too hard; after all, he was usually the cashier, and he let his shift mate mix all the drinks and coffee, which he sometimes tried as well, without paying. Just one of the perks of the job. Still, the work was suited to him too, as Dev, by all accounts, was a people person, and he excelled at bringing customer satisfaction with his charms. And he was doing just that now, as he smiled at a lady with a kid tugging at her sleeve. She had been rather annoyed earlier, because of her kid, probably, though she seemed to relax once she got her coffee and had a chat with Dev. And Dev liked to think that it was his charms which let the woman to smile.
“Thank you miss, come again soon!” Dev said as he bade farewell to the woman and her toddler. He was polite enough in his job. He turned back to the counter to attend to the next customer, but strangely, there was nobody there. Hmm, slow day. The cozy café itself was around half-way filled with people, and most of them were already enjoying their drinks and chatting around. Cool, a bit of a break for them. Stretching up as he yawned, celebrating a job well done, Dev turned to his shift mate, Morgan a very pretty girl. She had gorgeous red hair, and a very real personality. She was one of the best in this town, Dev admitted. Patting her shoulder twice, he said, “Looks like we have a bit of a break here.” He was friendly, and indeed, they were already sort of close, so he had no qualms about the touching.

Morgan had been at work for about 3 hours now. For the time she had been here, she has made all of about thirty drinks, and that is a slow day. Today Morgan was working the drink orders compared to being a cashier. But it was ok she liked making the drinks, as well as drinking them. She heard the cash register open and close and then she was told to make a grande pumpkin spice late and she got right to it. When she was pouring the milk and when she added the coffee you could see the steam coming off of the coffee telling you it was very hot. She added the pumpkin flavoring and then stirred it up before putting the top on the cup and then putting on a sleeve to prevent hands from being burned. She handed the coffee to the guy who was taking orders, Devin as he liked to be called.
Once the woman and her kid left the coffee shop, she leaned back against the counter and then Devin turned to look at her and then stated that it was a slow day. She looked at his hand patting her shoulder and she smiled, "Yea these damn people are getting stingier and stingier with their money." She said to him, "It's so dumb." She added. Then Morgan turned around and started making two venti drinks. Moments later she turned around and looked at Devin and handing him a caramel frappachino; She made one for herself as well. "Here, this is on the house." She said as she laughed at the irony, making the company pay for the employers drinks as she threw her red hair up into a messy bun.

“Well, it’s less work for me, so I’m cool with it.” Dev replied as Morgan berated the people who didn’t want to spend their cash on their coffee. He was such a slacker really, and he didn’t care at all if this place didn’t sell their coffee. “Oh? Some say saving up was actually smart.” He said in jest, shrugging as he didn’t really save up himself. He was only just living off the money his parents left for him, and with a fleeting thought, he realized that the money won’t last forever. Then he watched her fix up to drinks, and with a smile, he said, “Up to our old tricks again?” His tone was coy and teasing, as they had shared drinks on the job before. And they sure as hell didn’t pay for it. Dev personally considered it company thanks for his hard work.
“And I thank the house.” Dev said, taking the drink gratefully. Caramel frappachino, his favourite. And hers too, probably, as she held the same drink. “Cheers.” He said, smiling at her and flicking the cup slightly in her direction. He then took a sip, letting the sweet concoction fill his mouth. Licking his lips as he sighed in contentment, he said, “Ah, that’s good.” He took another sip as he watched her put her hair up in a bun, making him tilt his head. “Why the bun, hun?” He asked, grinning at his little rhyme. It was pathetic, he knew, but oh well. “You looked fine before.” He said, shrugging and winking. It was a rather flirty statement, but that was who he was, and the two of them flirted occasionally, when the customer line was empty, just like it was now, though it was probably soon to fill up as lunch time began to start.

Morgan looked over at Devin and she smirked when he said it's less work for him, "Less work? You never work." She said with as she smiled at him. "Some of us need to work to pay for rent and school." She said looking at him seriously but she really wasn't, but it was the truth. Starbucks helped her pay rent and pay for school. Morgan listened as Devin told her that some would say saving was smart and she looked out the door, "It is, but it's not when they are basically your paycheck." She said to him.
Morgan was a blunt girl, she told you what she thought about anything and everything. She didn't like to spit out lies or sugar coat the truth. If you don't want to hear the bare truth, don't ask Morgan for it. Because she will be frank. "Old tricks? I'm surprised they haven't fired my ass yet." She said taking a sip from her frapp. Devin told her it was good and she looked at him, "I make the best only for the employees." She said, and only three of them worked there, so she only made them really good for themselves. And that's saying a lot because Morgan always made the best drinks. She said cheers with him and took another sip. Morgan pulled out the song and licked the whipped cream and caramel off of it and she put it back into the drink. The cream was the best part of the drinks she thought. Morgan sat her drink on the counter and when Morgan asked her about her hair in a rhyming form, she laughed, grabbed the band and pulled it out of her hair. She shook her bright red hair back and forth, and smiled at Devin. Is this better for you? She asked him flirty like. She loved her hair, it was a bright red and it was all natural, she didn't have a bunch of freckles and she was actually pretty.

Point taken. Though Dev decided to look indignant instead, going with another play act. “Me? Not work? Are you sure you have the right Dev?” He said incredulously, though the corners of his mouth gave away what he really thought. She had a good point there; his work was more of chatting to customers, rather than doing actual tasks like mixing drinks. Then Morgan mentioned the things that she needed to pay for, and Dev smirked, before saying, “Yes, that’s why you should quit school and live with me.” The idea was ridiculous, and he knew it, but it was not a serious proposal anyway. “That way, you won’t have to pay for anything.” He explained, before bursting into laughs. He took a sip of the drink to calm himself down.
Nodding as she said that the free drinks were almost like their paycheck, Dev did agree that the pay here was peanuts. “Nah, they’d never fire you.” Dev said, his tone confident that the bosses would probably never let Morgan go. “It’s hard enough to find good employees who know their stuff.” He began, raising his frap as emphasis. “And it’s even harder those good employees in a hot redhead form.” He finished explaining, winking, before taking another sip. His eyes glinted a little when she pulled out her straw and licked the cream off it. He couldn’t help but to imagine… Yeah. He gulped again, even though there was really nothing in his mouth.
“See? That looks great!” Dev said, smiling as Morgan freed her hair from the band that held it. Her red hair was naturally beautiful. She then shook it back and forth for him, making Dev smile wider. “Yeah, a lot better.” Oh, thank God he had decided to pop in work today. He was definitely getting his time’s worth here, getting to stare at Morgan, who was very pretty girl. “If I didn’t know any better, you’re trying to impress me. With the drinks and your hair.” He said, sounding totally cocky as he took another sip from his drink. “It’s working.” He said quietly, sticking out his tongue like a little kid.

Morgan couldn't help but laugh when he asked her if she had the right Devin, she raised her hand and playfully hit him in his shoulder, "Yes, I'm sure slacker." She said to him as she took another sip from her drink, and when he said that he should move in with him she almost spit it out, "You're kidding right?" Sure they were friends, but she couldn't imagine living with him. She just couldn't put her finger on why, she just knew she couldn't. When he laughed hysterically she smiled as she found out that he was kidding. "Hey now, what if I did want to move in?" She said completely kidding herself. She just wondered what he was going to say to that.
When he told her that they wouldn't fire her because she knew her shit and because she was hot, she laughed and looked at his drink and then back up to him, "Damn straight, and I'm a natural red head too." She said tagging that onto the end. When she had the straw back in her drink she looked up at Devin and seen him looking at her oddly, "What?" She asked him, "Did I leave caramel on my face or something?" She asked him as she wiped her mouth with her hand.
"What makes you think I'm trying to impress you?" She asked him as she squinted her eyes at him, "Don't flatter yourself, babe." She said to him as she went to throw her hair back up.

What if she wanted to move in? Morgan was probably joking, of course, but Dev couldn’t help but to be optimistic. He knew he was playing the fool in he showed in, but whatever. Sometimes, you had to play the part of the idiot. “Well then, I’ll fix up a room, and take good, good care of you.” He said, smiling. It was a joke, of course, but they say jokes are half meant. And it was, in this case. “I’ll give you breakfast in bed, massages, anything you like.” He said, still grinning widely before he took another sip. This sort of banter was bread and butter for the two of them; a way to pass the time.
“Yup. All natural. Hot.” Dev said simply, staring at that natural red hair. It was mesmerizing really, brilliant red that can lure you in and never let you go. Not that he’d ever say that. He’d sound so hopeless. Oh no, she had caught him staring! Well, he was sure that she knew that he did that a lot, but this was one of the few times that she actually called him out on it. “What? No…” He said quietly, thinking of a way out; a lie. But he couldn’t find any possible excuses, so he decided to just spill. “You were licking that straw, and well…” He shrugged hoping that she’d catch his drift. He was a boy after all, and every boy had his fantasy. And one of his was being with a pretty red haired girl… “Sorry.” He said, raising a hand in apology. Dev knew people’s limits, and he seriously hoped Morgan wasn’t too offended. She was a great friend, a bright spot in the somewhat boring time that he spent working.
“Aha. I’m just kidding. You don’t need to do anything to impress me after all.” Dev said, smiling at his corny line. “Aww, don’t put it back up!” He said, pouting in protest, like a child deprived of his favourite treat. And her hair was a great treat, really. “You’re harming an endangered species there! Beautiful red hair…” He continued, before chucking. Ha, he really liked her hair, and he’d gladly talk about and admire them all day. Then he sipped the last of the caramel frap and put the cup on the counter, which was still empty. “Thanks for that. You make great drinks.” Well, she already knew that last part, but oh well.

Morgan ignored his comments about if she really wanted to move in or not because Morgan knew that both of them were joking around, clearly. She smiled when he said that she was hot. Well...that her hair was hot, but she thought that she knew what Devin had meant.
When she asked him about what he was looking at, she commented on what he had said, "And well you wanted me to do that?" She asked him plainly. Morgan was a blunt girl and she wasn't afraid to say anything she had on her mind. "Sorry, but by judging the looks of your neck, I'd say that I don't think that your girl would appreciate you saying these comments to me, Dev." She said to him, pointing out and noticing the striking marks on his neck, also known as hickeys. He looked to be claimed by someone and if it was Morgan who had a boyfriend and was making comments about what she was doing to a straw and what was on his mind, she wouldn't like that very much either. She waited to see what he would say about that, now that she called him out on his alleged staked property.
When her hair was up she laughed about what he said about harming endangered species and then he said something about her hair. "If I didn't know any better, I'd say you had a crush on me Mr. Davies." She said with a smile and a little arm nudge.

“No! Well…” Oh dear. Morgan had him in a bit of a tight spot here. With her blunt words, even Dev was feeling ashamed of himself. And making him feel that way about himself was very difficult, as he rarely thought and cared about the consequences of his actions. Keeping his head down, he decided to keep quiet, though he was still enjoying himself, despite his predicament. If anything, this whole event was making Morgan seem even more attractive to him, because he sort of thought that he was never going to get her anyway.
When she remarked about his neck, Dev automatically sent his hand to cover the mark, even though there were two hickeys visible, and many more were hidden, thankfully, by his clothes. He remembered that time he was with Jessica in a changing room stall at Planet Fitness, where she “branded” him. “No, I’m pretty sure she won’t mind.” He said coolly, still believing that Jess and he shared a unique relationship of sex and friendship, and neither of them told the other to stop hooking up with other people. He wasn’t going to bother explaining it though; it would be difficult to believe anyway.
Aha. Looks like his little secret had been found out. “Caught me red handed.” He said, admitting that he had taken a liking to the fiery red head. “You’re pretty and blunt, without being mean.” He explained, shrugging as he sort of poured his heart out. Coming from Dev, this was almost like a confession. He returned her smile, before saying, “That, and I always like what I can’t have.”, implying he that thought he had no chance with her.

Morgan eyed him and raised an eyebrow at him when he couldn't respond to her comment about what she thought had gone through his mind just a few moments ago. She knew she had him cornered, but if you didn't want to hear the truth, then you shouldn't hang out with Morgan, she didn't care what came out of her mouth as long as it was the truth, she didn't want to deal with that sugar coated bull shit, it just wasn't her style. Morgan drank what was left of her coffee and then she threw it in the trash, she was half attempted to make another one. She loved the coffee just that much.
Hearing that Dev did have a girl Morgan actually took a step away from him, she didn't want to push the boundaries of a taken man. But when she heard him say that she wouldn't mind, she actually frowned, "Well if you were my guy and I found out that you were flirting with another guy, you'd be on the street corner begging for a new girl." She said to him as she looked at him, "But I'm not saying that you would ever be my guy because I'm just not into that whole long term thing, ya' know?" She added on.
But what he said next stopped her dead in her tracks, he did like her? She listened to him as she just stared at him, he told her that he liked her because she spoke the truth but without being mean and that he liked what he couldn't have. And Morgan would be lying too if she said she didn't have a crush on him too, hell they had been working together for a while and when your in closed quarters like that side by side, its a wonder that she just found out he liked her, "Well, I like you too. But on that wanting what you can't have thing," She started, "If you want someone you can't have, wouldn't that mean you are leading on your girlfriend? You should be fair to her, not trying to tame me." She said to him, and she meant every word, why is he with someone when he wanted someone else? She had a few things on her mind about this guy standing in front of her.

Watching as Morgan took a step away from him, Dev was seriously hurt. What? Was he that disgusting in her eyes? Did she see him as some sort of man whore who had germs from so many women? Well, she had every right to think that, but it was little consolation. Then she said something about how he’d feel if he was with her and then he found out that Morgan was with another man. But he had no idea why she thought he was with someone. Oh. Duh. Hickeys. And he still hadn’t explained his ‘beneficial’ relationship with Jess. Huh, no better time to spill.
“I really don’t have a girl!” He said, a tone of desperation creeping into his voice. He really wanted to set things right with her, and redeem himself a bit, even if there was nothing going on between them other than playful flirting. “See, I have this friend, and well, we hook up sometimes.” He started, keeping his eyes on hers as he explained. It was obvious that he was being as truthful as he could. “But we aren’t in a relationship or anything. She can go date with other guys, and I don’t mind. It’s the same on my side.” He shrugged, thinking that it was very hard to believe, but the relationship between him and Jess worked. Still, he was reluctant to give out any names. “It’s unusual, but it works for us anyway.” He finished, hoping she’ll believe him.
Oh wow, she looked rather shocked that he liked her. Well, he did do his best to hide it, even though he was sure it was noticeable. His eyes lit up when she revealed that she liked him too, as it implied that they might be able to work something out between the two of them. “I don’t have a girlfriend.” He repeated. “Sorry if I didn’t make that clear earlier.” He said simply. “So I’m not leading anyone on. We both know that what we’re doing is just for fun…” He truly hoped she would understand, as Morgan, well, was different from everyone...

Morgan heard him tell her that he didn't have a girl. She got a puzzled look on her face and she crossed her arms. "What?" She asked him as she was wanting him to elaborate for her. It didn't make sense. Morgan looked at the hickeys on his neck and then he was saying that he didn't have a girlfriend. But then she got her explanation. He was just friends with the girl, and they hooked up. "So a friends with benefits thing?" She asked him. Morgan was sure he'd say yes. "So if she is a friend..with benefit. Are you some sort of man whore? Like how many girls do you mess around with like that?" She asked him as she was a little grossed out. That was dangerous to be messing around with many people like that.
"You know it's dangerous to mess around like that with many people, right?" She asked him. But before she could ask any more questions, he told her that him and his friend were both free to see other people, that their friendship worked for them and that they weren't tied down. She seen that he looked happier when she had told him that she had liked him too.
Morgan was about to respond to him when she heard the beeper chime and she watched as someone waltzed into the door. She looked at him, "Look just stay here, I'll cover this one." She told him as she walked up to the register, took the money and went to make the drink.
After the guest was gone, Morgan went to stand back in front of Devin. She looked up into his eyes and then sighed as she looked down to the grown, shook her head a smidge, and then back up to him. "Look D. I know that was good news for you, but I don't want to be another one of those girls." She said reaching up and touching his neck. "I don't want to be another notch on your belt, I'm sorry." She told him as she went to clean the counters a bit.

Dev could only watch as she continued to look confused and bewildered as he explained his and Jess’ relationship. This felled his hopes a little; it looked as if Morgan won’t understand at all. But then she talked and suggested that it was a friends with benefits thing, and Dev clutched on to that line, nodding his agreement. “Yeah, yeah. Exactly.” He wasn’t sure what to feel that she understood. For one thing, at least the fact that he had no girlfriend at the moment was cleared up, although this might make her even more disgusted at him. And as Morgan suggested that he was a man whore, Dev could offer little resistance, and he smiled at himself bemusedly. “Yes. I guess you could say that I’m a slut.” He admitted, shrugging, thinking once again that Morgan could totally see right through him.
“Yes, I know…” Dev said sheepishly, still being truthful. He knew all the risks, HIV, AIDS, not to mention the possible pregnancy. “But I’m young. And stupid.” He said simply, admitting his faults. He really was foolish, always looking for the next fuck and just not growing up at all. Ha. Look at him now, totally pathetic, receiving a psychological beatdown from the hottest redhead in the world. He shook his head, still both amused and bemused at all of this. He could say nothing, just nodding, still dazed, as Morgan left to make sure the customer had been taken care of. Fleetingly, he both praised and cursed the customer. He was thankful for the brief respite from all the seriousness, and he was mad because all the seriousness had been interrupted.
Then she came back to him, and looked into his eyes. Oh, those eyes. “You’ll never be just another one of those girls.” He said as she went to clean the counters. “You’re too smart. Too perfect, to let that happen to yourself.” He knew it right from the start that she was too good for him, especially if he kept messing around with every girl that he saw. He walked to her and silently held her hand with his own, looking away from her. He won’t give up on her, ever, even if she did keep rejecting him. “You won’t be ‘another notch’, Morgan. You’ll be the whole belt.” He said, the line horrible, but his intentions were pure. He knew that he was doing here; he was somehow implying that, just for her, he’d stop his whole playboy ways. He just hoped that she’d believe him.

So he admitted that he was a man slut. Morgan couldn't help but smile a little bit as she shook her head. She didn't think anyone would own up to that title, so why was he telling her this, now? "Wow, way to have some balls to admit to that.'' She told him. As most guys or girls wouldn't, but then she knew everyone was different. Morgan liked to have sex, but she was no whore. She would generally hookup with someone she has known for a long time or someone she is in a 'relationship' with or those of the past. But basically any guy that offered it up to her, was sadly mistaken and she would most likely tell them no.
"Young and stupid." She repeated back to him. "Well you are a guy." She said as she knew most guys liked getting girls, it was like it was programed into their DNA or something. But then there were the few guys that would rather get to know a girl first before trying to get in her pants. "Young, yes. Stupid? I second that." She said to him. But Morgan was only being honest. Though Morgan was smart, she just knew she would never understand guys. "To each his own." She said with a raised eyebrow as she continues to whip down the counter with her rag.
Morgan went to go in her own little world, trying to get over this conversation, but she was snapped back into reality when he told her that she would never be one of those girls, that she was practically better than them. And in her mind she was paraphrasing. But this time, Morgan was getting annoyed. She let her rag go and she looked back up at Devin when he put his hand on hers. He told her that she would basically be his whole belt. Morgan tilted her head slightly to the side. "Devin, you seriously expect me to fall for that line?" She said to him, calling him out. "Just how many girls before me fell for that?" She said putting him on the spot. "I won't be one to." She said as she stated she wasn't going to fall for his charms, and she had that annoyed tone in her voice. Morgan couldn't believe that she was actually getting annoyed with Devin being a man whore. She's heard him talk about girls before, but it never aggravated her before now.
Morgan looked up and she seen the lunch shift crew walking in the door, she looked at Devin, " 'scuse me." She said as she moved around him to go punch out for the day. When she did she started out the door, "Have a good day, D." she said as she put a hand in the air as she walked out of starbucks and into the mall. She figured she would go shopping a little before she left for home.

“Ha. One of the few things that I have those.” Dev said rather lifelessly even though she was both smiling and shaking her head. He’s gone and done it now; it was obvious that she’d have no more of him. Although he wouldn’t change anything that already happened, he couldn’t help but to curse his own lack of control. It was really ruining, or has ruined, his chances of slowly building a good rep with Morgan. Every smile he flashed her, every joke that he told, was now all for naught. From the start, Dev had a thought that perhaps Morgan was a keeper. Like, one for the future. She wasn’t easy, so maybe that’s what intrigued him at the start, but he’d come to grow very attracted to her, and not just because she was a hot redhead in her own right. No, it was because of her bluntness and honest personality.
“That I am…” He said, although once again, it hardly did any good. After all, the “men”, those who actually had self control, were separate from “guys”, the wild beasts that they are. He could only nod then she agreed that he was stupid; of course he was. “No. Of course not.” Dev said, absolutely crestfallen that she didn’t believe him, even though this was perhaps the one time that he ever really meant it. “A lot, admittedly…” He said; remembering similar lines, similar events to this, and most of them had a similar result; him getting in someone’s pants. “But this is different. Not that you’d believe it.” He said, his shoulders slightly slumped in defeat. Her statement sounded final, and she even sounded annoyed. He had no idea why; perhaps it was because he was being so persistent, and she was getting tired of dealing with him? Well. She better get ready, because Dev would keep pestering her about this. Any other time, any other girl, he’d pull the plug on her and just look for another one, but this time, he persisted. Because he knew that Morgan was something special, someone different.
Dev looked up, expecting to see her fierce blue eyes staring daggers at him, only to see a different person chatting to a customer on the counter. Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of beautiful red hair flying as through the door. Oh great, while he was in dreamland, Morgan had gone and left! Hastily, even though his shift wasn’t over yet, he went out of the shop and followed her, his pace quick and true. Within seconds, he exited the store, still in his uniform and all. “Hey!” He called, calling the attention of several people around. He went right past them, however and called her name. “Morgan! Wait!”
